St Cirq Lapopie.
Although it's a 3 hour drive each way, this has to be one of the most picturesque (and most photographed) villages in France.
Set on the top of a cliff overlooking the river Lot, St Cirq Lapopie has magnificent views across the river and the surrounding countryside.
The village itself is really pretty and has lot's of quaint old houses. There's also quite a number of craft shops and a couple of hotels and restaurant's.
It's one of those places where there appears to be something interesting around the corner of every building you pass, whether it's simply a lovely old property, a view into flower filled courtyards or an opening allowing a panoramic view across the Lot valley.
Parking is a non-starter on the road close to the village, You have to either pay at the car park at the top of the hill and walk down to the village, or use the free car park at the bottom of the hill and walk up to the village. It's not that far, it's free and at least its downhill on the way back to your car.
Here's some photos, so you can see for yourself.....
